Spotlight of the month
Insights into the daily work of our redtoo colleagues at Sulzer
Sulzer is a traditional Swiss company operating as a manufacturer and researcher for machine engineering. Their headquarters are located in Winterthur, Switzerland.
The contract with Sulzer emerged through our partnership with Microsoft. We were involved when Sulzer requested a proof-of-concept (PoC) for the feasibility of a System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) solution.
Our initial work started in August 2011 with 3 people and was finished successfully in September.
After the PoC was completed, we were able to win a new assignment for the piloting of the clients. In line with this the team could be increased to 7.
The whole project “Client Pilot” was then assigned to redtoo. Additionally we entered further areas such as support operations.
Our tasks at Sulzer are multifaceted ranging from client delivery, migration and support works to daily operation support for all client platforms (XP and Windows 7).
What makes this customer special
Sulzer is separated into 5 main divisions, with each division having individual operations with their own IT infrastructure. The project “Future IT Sulzer”(FITS) aims to centralize the IT infrastructures of all divisions. We are working for this account within a “multi provider environment”.
Mike – was does a normal workday of yours (as redtoo employee working for Sulzer) look like?
Actually the workday already starts the evening before, with the organization of the machines that are going to be migrated the next day. On the respective day we revise the prepared work and re-install the software packages. Once the installation is completed successfully, we arrange the dates with the customer and compile the inventory.
Additionally we are in charge of the support hotline for all requests related to the new windows 7 platform. There we have to solve issues successfully and eventually coordinate tasks between different teams.
What do you like most about your job / account?
No two days are the same. New challenges and tasks keep coming up – be it organizational or technical. This makes the job really interesting and multifaceted.
What do you like about the redtoo team?
The collegial cooperation between all members of the team; We support each other and maintain a continuous communication.
We have weekly lunch meeting with our redtoo account operations manager who drives all the way from Basel to meet us. This guarantees a continuous flow of information between us and the redtoo headquarters, and we get the chance to talk about any concerns.
How would you describe your work in one sentence.
They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself (Andy Warhol).
Thank you, Mike, for your time!
